Portugal’s Semapa concludes purchase of Brazilian cement company supremo Cimentos

26 June 2015

Portuguese cement group Semapa has completed the acquisition of full control of Supremo Cimentos, a Brazilian company in which it already owned a 50-percent stake, according to a statement filed Wednesday with Portugal’s stock market regulator, CMVM.

The purchase of the 50 percent of Supremo Cimentos that Semapa did not yet own was announced to the market on 29 April, but was dependent on the fulfilment of several conditions, which have now been verified.

Therefore, Secil – Companhia Geral de Cal and cement – through its affiliated company Ciminpart – Investimentos e Participações, SGPS – and NSOSPE Empreendimentos e Participações – the Brazilian company owned jointly by Semapa and Secil – are now holders of shares representing the entire share capital of Supremo Cimentos.

The full takeover of the company cost the Portuguese group 290 million reais (US$93.3 million).

Supremo Cimentos is a cement production company based in the south of Brazil in the state of Santa Catarina, which operates an integrated clinker and cement plant in Pomerode, as well as concrete aggregates operations, and it has recently completed the construction of a new integrated clinker and cement in Adrianople, in the state of Paraná.
