The Chinese manufacturer of Xiaomi mobile phones is due to start selling the devices in Brazil on 7 July after the official presentation of the Redmi 2 phone, as a session in São Paulo, the Brazilian press reported.
Brazil is the first country outside China where Xiaomi is present and will also be the first country to have a factory outside of Asia.
The international vice president of Xiaomi, Hugo Barra said the first device to be sold in Brazil, through the Xiaomi online store will be the Redmi 2 model, priced at 499 reais (about US$160).
Barra, who stressed the “highly competitive price” of the phone was due to the company investing little in advertising and focusing on e-commerce, said that since the establishment of the company in April 2010, Xiaomi has sold over 100 million phones. (macauhub/BR/NC)
