Sonangol Sinopec International, based in Hong Kong, is one of 37 companies that have pre-qualified to bid for 10 onshore oil blocks in Angola, Angola’s national oil company Sonangol said Monday.
The blocks up for auction are in the onshore basins of the rivers Kwanza (seven blocks) and Congo (three blocks) which, according to Sonangol, may represent more than half the known reserves in Angola, or at least 7 billion barrels.
The 37 pre-qualified oil companies in this bidding process – which began in April 2014 – also include companies such as Italy’s ENI, US company Chevron, Ecopetrol of Colombia and Portugal’s Galp Energia.
In the process for companies that will not be the operators of the blocks (minority contractors in groups to be established by block) 48 companies have been pre-selected.
The 85 pre-qualified companies are required to submit formal proposals for bidding by 18 September and results will be announced on 21 September. (macauhub/AO/PT)
