China supports Guinea-Bissau to build social housing

3 August 2015

China will support the Government of Guinea-Bissau to build 250 dwellings in Bissalanca, on the outskirts of Bissau, the Guinean Minister for Public Works said at the weekend.

Minister José António da Cruz Almeida said the support provided by China was only the first phase of a project to build 1,000 homes.

The project involves construction of buildings with a maximum of four storeys, which are intended to resettle the inhabitants of the neighbourhoods of Reno and Mindara, in the centre of the capital, whose current buildings will be demolished to make way for new residential blocks.

Almeida did not say when the project would begin or mention its total cost, but said that the new housing would occupy an area of 5 hectares.

“The real estate sector is thus a government commitment to the revival of economic activities for the development of the country,” the Minister of Public Works said. (macauhub/GW)
