The 51st edition of the Maputo International Fair (Facim), taking place from 31 August to 6 September, with the participation of nearly 3,000 Mozambican and foreign exhibitors, the president of the Institute for Export Promotion (Ipex) said Wednesday.
João Macaringue said the presence at the event of at least 31 countries was already confirmed, which is five more compared to last year when the 50th edition of Mozambique’s largest fair was attended by 2,600 exhibitors.
The president of the company that organises the event said South Korea would take part for the first time this year and that Spain would return after being absent in 2013 and 2014.
Macaringue said that the number of foreigners taking part highlighted the level of acceptance of Facim in the Southern African region in particular and the world in general with the business sector attracted by “business opportunities opening up in Mozambique, particularly in this age of discovery of natural resources.”
Facim 2015, taking place in Ricatla, Marracuene district, Maputo province, is expected to include the participation of 2,250 Mozambican companies compared to 1,975 in 2014.
Cited by Mozambican newspaper Notícias, Macaringue also said that the 51st edition of Facim, taking place in an area of 47,000 square metres, is expected to be visited by 84,900 people.
Founded in 1964 by Portuguese business owners, the Mozambique Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Fair (Facim) was one of the few brands associated with the Portuguese colonial regime that survived after the independence of Mozambique. (macauhub/MZ)
