NICO Moçambique Vida Companhia de Seguros plans to change its name to Sanlam Seguro de Vida, the insurance company announced in a statement released in Maputo and cited by the Mozambican press.
Last February South Africa’s Sanlam group acquired a 51 percent stake in the Mozambican insurer’s share capital via the subsidiary Sanlam Emerging Markts, which is in charge of the group’s business in emerging markets outside South Africa.
Company sources say the name change to Sanlam Seguro de Vida will optimise existing benefits while allowing the insurer to offer more innovative and affordable products to a bigger segment of the Mozambican population.
For the Sanlam group the Mozambican insurer’s new brand image is framed in the goal of consolidating its identity and expanding its image in Mozambique and southern Africa.
The Sanlam group is a diversified financial services company managing assets worth more than US$60 billion. It is also present in Botswana, Ghana, India, Kenya, Malawi, Malaysia, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia, and has plans to expand to other African countries and emerging markets.
