In the first nine months of the year, the number of visitor arrivals to Macau fell 3 percent, according to figures released Monday by the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau.
Between January and September, Macau received a total of 22,853,973 visitors, most of which – 12,300,0000 – entered the territory as part of tours and organised trips.
The People’s Republic of China continues to be the leading region of origin of visitors who visit Macau but in the first nine months of the year the number of mainland Chinese citizens who entered the territory fell 3.8 percent to 15,209,000.
The downward trend also affected visitors from South Korea, which fell by 2.4 percent over the same period last year.
Despite the decline seen over the first nine months of the year, in September the number of visitors increased by 0.4 percent year on year.
Last month Macau received 2,415,499 visitors. (macauhub/MO/CN)
