EU announces support for development projects in Mozambique

The European Union will grant US$740 million over the next five years to support several development projects in Mozambique, announced in Lichinga the head of the European delegation in Mozambique, Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff.

The ambassador also said that the agreement for the aid would be signed in Brussels this month by the government of Mozambique and the European Commission, according to Rádio Moçambique.

The head of the EU delegation in Mozambique, who was speaking on his arrival in Lichinga, for a six-day visit to Niassa province, said the purpose of the visit was to discover the region’s investment priorities.

Burgsdoff said that the provinces of Nampula, Zambézia, Sofala and Tete, including some areas of Niassa province, are those which have higher poverty levels.

Burgsdorff was accompanied on his trip by the ambassadors of Italy and the Netherlands, the director of the Belgian international cooperation agency and the charge d’affaires of Finland and Portugal. (macauhub/CN/ PT)
