In January Macau received 2.44 million visitors, a figure which represents a decrease of 0.8 percent year on year and 7.1 percent compared to December 2015, reported the Statistics and Census Bureau.
In the first month of the year visitors remained in the territory for an average of 1.2 days, or an extra 0.3 days compared to the same month of 2015.
From mainland China 1.65 million visitors came to Macau, a decline of 0.7 percent in annual terms, most of which (764,800) arrived from neighbouring Guangdong province, which was followed by the provinces of Fujian (67,200) and Hunan (60,600).
The number of visitors from Hong Kong (448,100) decreased by 5.3 percent in annual terms, but visitors from South Korea (69,200) and Taiwan (85,900) increased 0.6 percent and 11.6 percent, respectively, in annual terms. (macauhub/MO)
