Mozambique has 2016’s best new hotel in Africa

25 April 2016

The andBeyond Benguerra Island resort in the Bazaruto Archipelago, Mozambique, has been named as the best new hotel in Africa in 2016 by travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller.

With just 10 houses, two cabins and a three-bedroom house, the resort offers “an intimate decor with a well-executed note of Africa-meets-Portugal,” according to the magazine.

The resort offers its guests perfect beaches, trips in traditional boats accompanied by dolphins, sea fishing and scuba diving, as well as being close to a freshwater lake inhabited by flamingos.

The most efficient way to get there is by air from Johannesburg to Vilanculos, where an eight-minute helicopter ride takes vacationers to Benguerra island.

The Bazaruto archipelago is a marine conservation area with sandy beaches and coral reefs, one of the few places on the planet that is home to dugongs, rare marine mammals.

The remaining four resorts on the list of the five best hotels in Africa are, in order of presentation, Angama Mara (Kenya), Elma Arts Complex Luxury Hotel (Israel), Makanyi Private Game Lodge (South Africa) and Park Hyatt Zanzibar (Tanzania). (macauhub/MZ)
