Extractive industry under discussion at international conference in Mozambique

More than 300 domestic and foreign experts on the extractive industry gather in Maputo on Wednesday and Thursday for the 5th edition of the Mozambique Mining, Oil and Energy Conference (MMEC).

The event, entitled “Using domestic natural resources to catalyze the development of infrastructure, inclusive growth and economic transformation” happens at a time when the national mining industry remains strong despite the slowdown in international markets.

The opening ceremony of the conference took place Tuesday with speeches by representatives of state oil and gas company ENH, the Geological Mining Association of Mozambique (GAMM), Anadarko Petroleum, Sasol and ExxonMobil and the official opening ceremony will be attended by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Pedro Couto.

The MMEC is a platform designed to provide a forum for exchange among regulators, investors and experts in mining, oil and energy industries, to promote sustainable use of national resources.

The conference is sponsored by international groups ExxonMobil, General Electric, Shell, Sasol, Standard Bank and Siemens, among others. (macauhub/MZ)
