China plans to increase cooperation with the municipality of Sal, Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), particularly through tourism investments on the island, said Monday the Chinese ambassador to Cabo Verde, Du Xiaocong.

The ambassador is on a two-day visit to Sal at the invitation of the outgoing Mayor, Jorge Figueiredo, according to Cape Verdean news agency Inforpress.

The mayor recalled that over 12 years the municipality of Sal had established ties of friendship and institutional relations with China, particularly in Sanya city on the island of Hainan.

Figueiredo noted that Sal is now well positioned in national and international athletics due to China’s support to lay a new track and lighting at Marcelo Leitão Stadium, alongside the Santa Maria technical school building.

On the two-day visit the Chinese diplomat will have opportunity to see the state of the infrastructure built using Chinese funds, “including the stadium and the technical school. (macauhub/CN/CV)
