Brazil’s Embraer stops manufacturing Legacy aircraft in China

2 June 2016

Brazilian aeronautical company Embraer has decided to shut down production of its Legacy jet aircraft in China, ending the 13-year partnership with the Aviation Industry Corporation Group of China (AVIC), the Brazilian company said in a statement issued Wednesday.

Embraer produced Legacy jets in China through the Harbin Embraer Aircraft Industry (HEAI), a partnership with Harbin Aviation Industry and Harbin Hafei Aviation Industry, subsidiaries of state group AVIC.

The factory located in Harbin, which previously produced the ERJ-145 regional jet delivered the last Legacy 650 in March.

“Embraer will continue attentive to the Chinese market, both for commercial aircraft and executive jets,” said the company’s chairman, Frederico Curado, who added that Embraer will maintain support to existing customers in China and the 166 aircraft in operation via the office in Beijing.
