Brazil promotes itself as a tourist destination on Weibo social network

The Visit Brasil website (, the official Brazilian tourism website (, said the Brazilian Tourism Institute (Embratur).

Weibo, which is one of the largest social networks in China and the world, has 600 million users inChina alone. Embratur plans to use it to attract Chinese tourists to Brazil before, during and after the Rio 2016 Olypic and Paralympic Games.

A study by the Tourism Ministry showed that Chinese tourists visit Brazil for its culture, for ecotourism, to shop and do business and, based on that, Embratur is focusing on destinations such as Rio de Janeiro, Manaus and Foz do Iguacu.

“Brazil is preparing to receive tourists from across the world for the Olympic Games,” said the interim president of Embratur, Jose Antonio Parente, adding, “it is fundamental to focus our attention on Chinese visitors in order to conquer that market, which, per year, send 100 million people on trips abroad.”

Embratur expects Brazil to receive 100,000 Chinese tourists during the Olympic Games, from 5 to 21 August in Rio de Janeiro. (macauhub/BR/CN)
