29 June 2016

The representatives of the governments of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region (9+2 Group) are optimistic about the prospects of cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, according to the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).

In a statement, IPIM adds that some members of the delegation, which concluded an eight-day visit to Portugal and Belgium on 24 June, consider that the visit was an important step for the provinces and regions of the “9+2 Group” to expand outwards together and, at the same time, highlight the unique role of Macau.

Xie Baohe, member of the Commission for Development and Reform of Jiangxi Province, said the visits to some Portuguese companies had been interesting and had strengthened communication and cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries.

The deputy director of Regional Economic Services and Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection of Hainan and member of the Commission for Development and Reform of that province, Si Fengping said the visit organised by the Macau government had made it possible for the province to get a more thorough understanding of the Portuguese-speaking countries.

Si Fengping also said that the platform provided by Macau will make it possible to break the language barrier between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries.

In turn, the Director of the Office for Foreign Investment Promotion and member of the Commission for Development and Reform of Sichuan Province, Fang Xi said that this visit enabled the representatives of the governments of the provinces and regions that make up the “9+2 Group” to visit small businesses in Portugal and establish an exchange with trade associations in the country.
