Macau Chief Executive Chui Sai On travels to Portugal on an official visit from 10 to 15 September at the invitation of Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the government spokesman’s office announced on Monday.
Chui Sai On will also meet with Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa. The talks with both will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas about matters of common interest and further consolidate bilateral cooperation.
The Macau-Portugal Joint Committee will meet during the visit, co-chaired by the Chief Executive and by Portuguese Foreign Minister Augusto Santos Silva. The aim is to review work accomplished and discuss future prospects.
The Macau-Portugal Joint Committee was established by the Framework Cooperation Agreement between the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China and the Portuguese Republic, for the purpose of carrying out and enhancing bilateral cooperation in various areas.
This will be Chui’s second visit to Portugal since he took office as Macau Chief Executive in 2009. The previous one was in 2010 and was his first official visit after becoming head of the territory’s government. (Macauhub/MO/PT)
