The number of foreign tourists to visit Macau this year is likely to grow by 10%, offsetting the drop in Chinese mainland tourist arrivals, the director of the Tourist Office said on Thursday.
Helena Senna Fernandes said she expected the number of people visiting Macau this year would be similar to 2015, about 30.7 million people, which will be guaranteed by the increase in foreign tourists.
On the sidelines of the presentation of the 4th edition of the Macau International Tourism Exhibition, Helena Senna Fernandes recalled that, after a slight drop, the number of visitors increased slightly in the first half of the year, but tourists from China decreased.
Macau received 14.7 million visitors in the first six months of the year, 0.1% more than in the same period of 2015 but the number of visitors from China fell to 9.7 million (-0.4%). according to the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau.
Visitors from Hong Kong fell by 3.1% but visitors from other countries increased, especially from Japan (+7.9%) and Korea (+6.5%). (macauhub/CN/MO/PT)
