10 October 2016

The main objective of the Ministerial Conference which begins Tuesday in Macau is pragmatic cooperation in productive areas and investments that benefit all, the general secretary of Forum Macau told Chinese news agency Xinhua.

Xu Yingzhen also said that the new cooperation ideas brought by the “One Belt, One Road” project will be one of the main topics for discussion at the 5th Conference, which aims to create new areas of cooperation that will benefit not only the Portuguese-speaking countries belonging to Forum but also their populations.

This year’s ministerial conference will extend existing areas of cooperation, which focus on trade and economic sectors, the general secretary of Forum Macau said.

During the first ministerial conference in 2003 cooperation focused on seven areas but in 2013 that number increased to 17 areas, Xu told Xinhua.

The Secretary General of the Forum also noted that Macau can be an important platform for providing financial services in Portuguese-speaking countries.

In addition to China’s Prime Minister, the Prime Ministers of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Portugal are attending the conference, as well as ministers for the sectors of the economy of Angola, Brazil and Timor-Leste (East Timor). (macauhub)
