Parliament authorises the government of Mozambique to create tourist tax

1 December 2016

The government of Mozambique will create a tourism tax under a legislative authorisation granted by parliament, which was approved by a simple majority, according to Mozambican state news agency AIM.

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Silva Dunduro, presenting the proposal, said the rate will be on the total price of accommodation and will be charged at the time of payment for lodging.

The proposed legislative authorisation law seeks, in essence, to allow the government to implement a tourist tax and legislate for its collection and application, the minister said. (macauhub)
