Pre-qualified Macau vehicles with single registration can start circulating on Hengqin Island from 20 December, announced the office of the Macau government spokesman.
Vehicle owners interested in travelling on the island have been able to request the documents needed to do so from departments in Zhuhai and Macau since 16 December.
In addition to these documents, vehicle owners previously have to acquire a valid third party insurance in China, which can be purchased from the branches of insurance companies “Seguros da China Taiping (Macau)” and “Asia Insurance Company Limited.”
The director of the Management Council of the Hengqin New Zone, Niu Jing, said the strategy of entry and exit of Macau vehicles in Hengqin will play a positive role for economic development between Macau and Guangdong Province as well as bringing advantages in promoting and increasing the reform and modernisation of relations between Zhuhai and Macau.
The Hengqin New Area will execute the State Council’s policies and strategies, optimising border inspection facilities, pushing forward the reform and modernisation of the inspection mechanism at border posts while improving the area’s road traffic conditions.
The announcement of the opening of the border was made in October by the Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang when he attended the 5th Ministerial Conference of Forum Macau. (macauhub)
