Angolan insurance company launches Carrier Liability insurance

6 February 2017

Angolan insurance company ENSA – Seguros de Angola has launched a product called “Carrier Liability,” which is intended to cover compensation to those who are legally obliged to pay due to loss of goods or the destruction of their means of transport, the company’s chairman said in Lobito.

Manuel Gonçalves said that this insurance also covers the costs of environmental cleaning and impact, criminal court costs (including for the driver) and civil court costs, as well as attorneys’ fees, according to Angolan news agency Angop.

The coverage that the product offers also includes extra-contractual liability for bodily injury or property damage caused to third parties and third party damage caused by goods being loaded, carried and unloaded.

Gonçalves said that the option to launch Carrier Liability insurance in Lobito was due to the importance the Lobito corridor has for the Angolan economy and the Southern Africa region.

Among the main facilities that are part of the Lobito Corridor are the commercial port of Lobito, the Benguela railway, Catumbela International Airport and the provincial airports of Huambo, Kuito and Luena. (macauhub)
