Consumer prices in Macau in January rose 1.76% year on year, an increase of 32 basis points on the figure recorded in December 2016, reported the Statistics and Census Bureau.
The increase was due mainly to the rise in prices of tours, meals bought away from home, car park rentals, cars and petrol, the Bureau said.
The price indices of Recreation and Culture, Transport, and Education rose by 9.03%, 8.12% and 7.38%, respectively, compared to January 2016.
In monthly terms, compared to December 2016, the consumer price index for January rose 0.36%, with the categories of Recreation and Culture and Transport increasing 7.49% and 1.10%, respectively.
The inflation rate measured by the average of the indices of the last 12 months over the previous 12 months rose 2.20%, with the highest increases in the price indices of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (+19.10% ), Education (+8.26%) and Transport (+7.17%). (macauhub)
