The number of visitors to Macau in January 2017 grew 17.6% year on year and 2.2% in monthly terms to 2.87 million due to the celebration of the Lunar New Year which occurred in the first month of the year against February in 2015, reported the Statistics and Census Bureau.
The visitors remained in the territory for an average of 1.1 days, 0.1 days less compared to the same month last year.
Visitors from mainland China to Macau in January totalled 1.99 million people or 69% of the total, a figure that represents an increase of 20.4% year on year.
Chinese visitors were mainly from Guangdong province (991,200) and Hunan Province (70,700).
The number of visitors from South Korea (81,400) and Hong Kong (527,200) both increased 17.6% on year, while the number of Taiwanese visitors (84,200) decreased by 2.0%. (macauhub)
