Macau presents proposals for joint tourism promotion with Zhuhai and Zhongshan

6 March 2017

Proposals to carry out joint promotional actions involving Macau and the neighbouring cities of Zhuhai and Zhongshan were presented by the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) at a recent meeting of tourism officials, the MGTO said.

The meeting held in Macau, which took stock of regional tourism cooperation between Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macau in 2016 and to prepare the measures to be implemented in 2017, also served to pass on the rotating presidency from Zhongshan to Macau.

The proposals presented by the director of the Tourist Office, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, included an invitation to Zhongshan and Zhuhai tourism authorities to be part of a Macau, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Hong Kong tourism promotion event, to be held in April this year in Indonesia and Malaysia.

The three cities also plan to travel to the eastern regions of China and Guilin that lie along the high-speed rail network, to carry out tourism promotion, opening up markets abroad and in the country together.

Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macau in 2006 created a tourist alliance, using the image of “Xiangshan in the past, Zhongshan and Zhuhai and Macau today” for joint promotions and has since held annual meetings to discuss the cooperation plan for each year, with the presidency of the alliance to be chaired alternately by the tourism authorities of the three cities.

The tourism authorities of the three cities in 2016 organised and participated in various activities, including promotion of multi-destination tourism products to Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macau held in Nanning and Guilin, along with joint participation in tourism and cultural activities to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen, co-organised by the Zhongshan Tourism Administration.
