Cabo Verde registers more passengers and aircraft at airports in 2016

The number of passengers handled at Cabo Verde’s (Cape Verde’s) airports in 2016 increased by 10.1% to 2.1 million and aircraft rose 9.1% to a total of 30,200, according to 2016 transport statistics published on Tuesday by the archipelago’s National Statistics Institute (INE).


In absolute terms, there were 2.1 million passenger movements at Cabo Verde’s airports and airfields, 192,500 more than in 2015 and in the case of aircraft there were an additional 2,527 movements compared to 2015.


Cargo movement in the country’s airports and airfields declined 2.4% compared to 2015, with 2.777 million tonnes handled against 2.845 million tonnes a year earlier.


With regard to the movement of ships in ports, INE data showed that in 2016 there was an annual increase of 7.4%, with 7,534 movements, 517 more in real terms than in 2015.


The number of passenger movements in Cabo Verde’s ports rose 8.2% compared to 2015, to 903,100, a figure which represents an annual increase of 68,500. (macauhub)
