7 April 2017

Macau will strengthen its tourism promotion strategy to coordinate with China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative, according to the decisions made on Thursday at the meeting of the Joint Works Commission to Promote the Construction of Macau as a World Centre for Tourism and Leisure.

An official statement said that during the meeting, attended by tourism officials from the central Chinese government, from Macau, the provinces of Guangdong and Fujian, the city of Zhuhai, the Hengqin Economic Zone and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai- Macau- Bridge, a decision was made to organise visits this month by the tourism authorities of Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Hong Kong to Indonesia and Malaysia to promote multi-destination tourism and later a visit to the province of Hainan.

Participants at the meeting decided to further develop the role of Macau as a platform by organising the “International Tourism (Industry) Expo,” the “Global Tourism Economy Forum” and the “PATA Travel Mart” and invite the provinces and municipalities of mainland China, particularly Guangdong and Fujian, to visit Macau to take part in the events.

The meeting also discussed the entry into operation in 2018 of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and how the three regions will act in terms of tourism promotion. (macauhub)
