Chinese embassy in Angola will occupy new building

12 April 2017

The Chinese Embassy in Angola is expected to occupy a building due to be built on a plot of land in Luanda where Cine Miramar is currently located, following an agreement signed by the two countries in 2013, Angolan newspaper Novo Jornal reported.

The paper said that, although there are currently no visible signs of construction, the plot is fenced off and being policed, and has a large Chinese flag inside.

The 2013 agreement, signed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the then Chinese ambassador to Angola, Gao Kexiang, did not set an exact location but mentioned land in Boavista, in the Sambizanga district for construction of a new building for the Chinese Embassy.

At the time the Chinese diplomat said the Embassy needed a new building built from scratch because existing facilities were no longer sufficient.

“I am convinced that the new Chinese Embassy building in Angola will best serve the development of Chinese-Angolan relations,” Ambassador Gao Kexiang said at the time. (macauhub)
