Chinese group BYD Co Ltd has expanded the factory it opened in 2015 in Campinas, in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, by adding production lines for solar panels and chassis for electric buses, with an investment of US$48 million, reported the Brazilian press.
The solar panel line is designed for production of double-glazed panels, where the solar cells are installed between two glass panels, and production is estimated at 200 megawatts per year.
This technology allows the production of more energy – about an additional 7.0% – compared to conventional panels and lengthens the life of these panels from a current average of 30 years to 50 years.
The second line is intended for production of chassis for electric buses, which will be placed on the Brazilian market at an average of 720 units per year.
The group is headquartered in Shenzhen, a special economic region adjacent to Hong Kong and has two main subsidiaries – BYD Automobile and BYD Electronic – for the production of cars, rechargeable batteries and solar panels, among other products. (macauhub)
