Students from Macau and from Guangdong and Fujian provinces who are interested in a “Belt and Road” scholarship and who meet the eligibility requirements must apply from 29 May to 12 June, the Macau Foundation said.
The “Belt and Road” initiative, which covers more than 60 countries and regions from Asia, through Eastern Europe and the Middle East to Africa, is a national strategy aimed at rejuvenating the Chinese nation and international development.
In this context, Macau plays an important role in the implementation of the “Belt and Road” initiative, as it has very close and extensive links with the Portuguese-speaking countries and Southeast Asia.
The “Belt and Road” scholarship programme lasts 5 years and provides covers a total of 150 students, accepting applications for “overseas scholarships” at this stage, one of two types, while the other is in Macau.
The “overseas scholarship” will be awarded in the 2017/2018 academic year to ten permanent residents of Macau in a higher education institute in Brazil, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.
It will also be awarded to 10 candidates from Guangdong and Fujian for a higher education institution in Portugal, Brazil, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. (macauhub)
