Macau’s casino revenue grows 23.7% in May to US$2.84 billion

Macau’s gross casino revenue rose 23.7% year-on-year in May to 22.742 billion patacas (US$2.842 billion), according to data released on Thursday by the Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ).

May, as well as having registered the highest year-on-year growth since the beginning of the year, is also the tenth consecutive month of increases in gross gaming revenue, which began in August 2016 with an increase of 1.1%.

The accumulated gross revenue from January to May totalled 106.382 billion patacas (US$13.297 billion), an increase of 15.8% compared to the 91.906 billion patacas recorded in the same period of 2016.

In 2016, Macau’s casinos posted revenue of 223.210 billion patacas (US$27.901 billion), representing a contraction of 3.3% compared to the value recorded in 2015, with 230.840 billion patacas.

At the end of the first quarter of 2017 there were 39 casinos in Macau run by six concession holders, 21 by Sociedade Jogos de Macau, six by Galaxy Casino, four by Venetian Macau, four by Melco Crown Jogos (Macau), two by Wynn Resorts (Macau) and one by MGM Grand Paradise, which had 6,423 gaming tables and 16,018 slot machines.
