Cape Verde hosts business people from China and Portuguese-speaking countries

Business people from China and Portuguese-speaking countries are meeting from 16 to 18 June in Praia, the capital of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), in search of business opportunities and partnerships, in an initiative supported by the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).

Formally known as the, “Meeting of Entrepreneurs for Economic and Commercial Cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries,” the event will be attended by about 400 entrepreneurs looking for business opportunities.

With the motto “Promoting opportunities for economic cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries,” the meeting will be organised by Cabo Verde Tradelnvest (CVTI), whose president, Ana Barber, said on Monday that about 150 Chinese business people are expected to attend.

Barber added that representatives from countries such as the United States, Spain, Morocco, Senegal and Ghana will also attend, and during the three days of the meeting there will be various activities, such as seminars, business contacts, visits to other islands, a cultural programme, products fair and several thematic panels, mainly dedicated to fishing, industry and services.

The meeting is co-hosted by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Communities and Economy and Employment of Cabo Verde, the Sotavento and Barlavento Chambers of Commerce and Services, the Cabo Verde-China Friendship Association (Amicachi), the International Trade Fair of Cabo Verde (FIC) and the chambers of commerce of the Portuguese-speaking countries.

The opening session of the event, which has the support of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), will be chaired by the Cape Verdean prime minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, while the closure will be two days later and chaired by the Minister of Economy and Employment of Cabo Verde, José Gonçalves.

The delegation of Macau to this meeting will travel on to Portugal to take part in the “Business Forum of Business Opportunities between Portugal, China and the Macau Special Administrative Region” and the “International Business Fair and Forum of China-Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking Countries (FIN 2017). ”

The first Forum is a joint organisation of the Foreign Investment and Trade Agency of Portugal, the China Council for Promotion of International Trade and the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, while the second forum is organised by the Portugal-China Association of Young Entrepreneurs.
