Foreign investment by Macau residents totals US$ 60 billion

Macau residents’ investment in securities issued by non-resident entities calculated at market prices on 31 December 2016 amounted to 484.7 billion patacas (US$60.5 billion), according to the Macau Monetary Authority (AMCM).

AMCM added this figure was an increase of 9.4% compared to 30 June 2016 and of 10.5% over 31 December 2015.

Investments in equity securities (including mutual funds and investments in trusts), long-term bonds and short-term bonds totalled 183.9 billion patacas, 285.9 billion patacas and 14.9 billion patacas, respectively, representing variations of +8.2%, +15.6% and -30.4% in relation to the end of 2015.

The Asian region held the largest share of the Macau residents’ foreign investment portfolio (56.6%), the rest being mainly in the North Atlantic and Caribbean (15.0%), Europe (12.3%), North America (10.4%) and in Oceania (5.1%).

Macau residents’ investment continued to focus on securities issued by Chinese entities (including securities listed on overseas stock exchanges), with 38.6% of the foreign investment portfolio.

The total market value was 187.3 billion patacas, or 8.7% less than in the same period of 2015. (macauhub)
