The Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macau said on Wednesday that the government plans to enhance Macau’s advantages as a “Service Platform for Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries,” in particular in the area of financial cooperation in order to create business opportunities for Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.

Leong Vai Tac, speaking at the meeting of the Guangdong-Macau Cooperation Working Group 2017, held within the scope of the “Belt and Road” initiative and the project to create the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area said the government will strengthen Macau’s role as an “international tourism and leisure centre” and give priority to its transformation into a centre for quality tourism education and training in the Greater Bay.

The Secretary of Economy and Finance said that, at a cultural level, the government will take full advantage of the historical heritage of more than 400 years of Chinese and Western cultures in Macau to contribute to the construction of the Greater Bay in this area.

Leong Vai Tac proposed more synergies between Macau and Guangzhou through greater integration of both markets, promoting the free and orderly movement of people, goods, capital and information, strengthening bilateral cooperation in the industrial area, deepening the partnership between the residents of the two cities in matters of employment, business initiatives and environmental protection.

The Secretary for Economy and Finance also called for the extension of cooperation with the Free Trade Area of Nansha in Guangdong province and increased cooperation in education, culture, science and technology, creating a centre for technological innovation on an international scale. (macauhub)
