Electric taxis built by China’s BYD launched in Belo Horizonte, Brazil

18 July 2017

Electric taxis produced by Chinese company Build Your Dream (BYD) are due to start operating in the city of Belo Horizonte, in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

The taxis can travel up to 400 kilometres on a single battery charge and have 110 horsepower and are similar in every way to a petrol or diesel-driven car.

The Minas Gerais authorities already use BYD electric buses in the city’s transport system.

BYD, which has its Brazilian headquarters in Campinas, in the state of São Paulo, plans to sell around 2,000 electric vehicles in Brazil by 2018.

BYD, which entered the Brazilian market in 2015, was established in 1995 and has its headquarters in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, next to Hong Kong. (macauhub)
