The new delegates from Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) and São Tomé and Príncipe and to the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macau are taking office on 1 August, the Support Office to the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese Language Countries said on Tuesday.
The new delegate from Cabo Verde, Nuno Miguel Melo Furtado, previously served as the diplomatic advisor to the president of the National Assembly of Cabo Verde.
The Sao Tomé and Príncipe delegate to the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macau, Gualter Sousa Pontes da Vera Cruz, served as the advisor to the Minister of Finance, Trade and the Blue Economy of São Tomé and Príncipe.
On 31 July, the former Cape Verdean delegate, Mario Vicente, who had been in office since March 2011, resigned from the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macau.
São Tomé and Príncipe’s accession to the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries was approved by the other member countries in March.
This accession follows the re-establishment of diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, replacing Taiwan, which took place on 20 December 2016, with the Forum Macau now having all eight countries with Portuguese as an official language as members. (macauhub)
