Macau Chief Executive Chui Sai On said on Wednesday that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Great Bay and Belt and Road initiatives will contribute to the development of all sectors of the territory and serve as platforms to further diversify the Macau economy.
Referring to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Great Bay initiative, Chui recalled that, following the agreement signed between the Chinese province and the two special administrative regions, China’s National Development and Reform Commission will study the future planning of the region to be a major metropolis in southern China with the three parties involved.
The Chief Executive also said that the “Centre and Platform” and “Belt and Road” initiatives and strategic development of the Greater Bay contribute to strengthening regional cooperation and are positive for the construction of Macau as a world tourism and leisure centre.
Chui, who was speaking at the Legislative Assembly, also said that Macau could study the feasibility of being a world centre for tourism training, a cultural centre and to give the financial sector its own characteristics.
According to the Chief Executive, Macau, as a world centre for tourism and leisure, will gradually become a tourism destination focused on culture, events and leisure, entertainment, trade, conventions and exhibitions.
Chui also said that China’s planned development strategy for Macau also includes it role as a platform between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, and said he was convinced that 2018 will be a year of great development opportunities for Macau. (macauhub)
