The number of companies already registered for the 53rd edition of the Maputo International Fair is low two weeks before the start of Mozambique’s main trade fair, Mozambican weekly newspaper Domingo reported on Sunday.
The newspaper also reported that Mozambican companies lead the list of confirmations, with a total of 183, significantly lower than last year, wen the fair was attended by over 2,000 national companies.
Foreign companies are also registered in smaller numbers, with a total of 85 confirmations compared to 700 that were present at the 2016 edition of FACIM.
The countries represented at the fair this year total 24 compared to 30 last year, notably including Germany, Angola, Portugal, Botswana, Italy, France, Indonesia, Great Britain, Denmark, Ireland, Finland, Brazil, Iceland and Belarus, which is taking part for the first time.
The institutions and countries that have already confirmed their presence will occupy only 50% of the available indoor area and 75% of the open area. Last year, two weeks before the fair, there were companies on the waiting list.
FACIM 2017 will begin on 28 August with the closure scheduled for 3 September in Ricatla, in the district of Marracuene, in the southern province of Maputo.
