Angola’s Tourism Minister proposes creation of package holidays

23 August 2017

The creation of package holidays for tourists can help stimulate tourism in Angola, Hotel and Tourism Minister Paulino Baptista said at the inauguration ceremony of the three-star Spit Hotel Lubango, of the chain managed by the Angolan Tourism Development Institute (Infotur).

The minister, quoted by state newspaper Jornal de Angola, stressed that although the government has been approving policies to promote the sector, it is incumbent on the operators of the sector to promote the province as a tourist destination, with the creation of cheaper packages.

Baptista said that the tourism potential of Huíla, which has tourist attractions such as the Leba mountain range, the Tundavala gap, the Tchiviguiro lagoon, Cristo Rei monument and Nossa Senhora do Monte, makes the province a tourism benhmark.

“With these tourist resources available, a challenge is being made to all agents in the sector, especially to travel and tourism agencies, to add value through the creation of tourist packages and car rental services at affordable prices,” he said.

The inauguration of the Spit Hotel Lubango, the second unit of the Infotur chain of hotels, has added 134 rooms to the hotels in Huila province, requiring an investment of US$25 million. (macauhub)
