Brazil and China sign new nuclear power cooperation agreement

30 August 2017

Brazil’s Eletrobras Eletronuclear and the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) will sign on Thursday 1 September in Beijing an agreement to guarantee continuity of the project for nuclear sector cooperation between the two countries, Agência Brasil reports.

The document to be signed during the official visit of Brazilian President Michel Temer will be the third between Eletronuclear and CNNC to establish a nuclear sector partnership.

The first was signed in 2015 during Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s visit to Brazil.

The second, signed in December 2016, concerned cooperation in the restart of construction work on the Angra 3 power plant. At that time the head of the Brazilian company, Bruno Barretto, met in Beijing with CNNC and major Chinese banks, potential financers of the cost of completing Angra 3. (Macauhub)
