Ethiopian Airlines and Malawi Airlines to offer domestic routes in Mozambique

6 September 2017

Ethiopian Airlines and Malawi Airlines have been selected to explore domestic air routes under the public tender launched by the Mozambican Civil Aviation Institute (IACM) last April, the institute’s president said on Tuesday in Maputo.

The two companies will explore domestic routes in competition with national operators such as Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM), Moçambique Expresso (MEX); CFM – Transportes e Trabalhos Aéreos (TTA) and Solenta Aviation Mozambique.

IACM president João de Abreu said that LAM, MEX and Ethiopian Airlines had expressed an interest in exploring all the domestic routes set out in the tender, while CFM-TTA, Malawi Airlines, TTA and Solenta requested specific routes.

For the international routes, which were also the object of the tender launched in April, CFM – Transportes e Trabalhos Aéreos, Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique, Moçambique Expresso and Transportes e Trabalhos Aéreos were selected, and Malawi Airlines was excluded.

The public tender launched by IACM included routes between Mozambique’s eight international airports (Maputo, Beira, Inhambane, Vilanculos, Tete, Nampula, Nacala and Pemba) and 13 countries and domestic routes between 11 airports in the country. (macauhub)
