Cabo Verde intends to benefit from new US financial support

Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) intends to benefit from a third financial support package under the US Millennium Challenge Account programme, Finance Minister Olavo Correia said at the end of a meeting of the Coordinating Council of the Millennium Challenge Account Cabo Verde.

The meeting chaired by the Minister of Finance took stock of work over the last three months and outlined the activities to complete the second phase of the programme, which focused on water, sanitation and land registration.

Under the second support package, which includes the “Wash” (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) and “Land” programmes, with a budget of US$66.2 million, a land registry and survey was made of the islands of Maio, Sal, São Vicente and Boavista.

The second phase of the programme ends on 30 November, but may be fully closed by 30 March, 2018, according to statements by the director of the Second Compact’s Management Unit, Hélder Santos, to Rádio Cabo Verde.

By then, the US$9 million dollars earmarked for the conclusion of 14 projects in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector on several islands must be used.
