China Mobile’s Brazil office will be the telecommunication company’s business centre in Latin America, according to company officials cited by tele.síntese, a Brazilian telecommunications, Internet and information technology website.
The office is located in São Paulo, the economic capital of Brazil, and the inauguration ceremony was attended by representatives of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and the Brazilian government.
China Mobile registered with the Brazilian National Taxpayer Registry (CNPJ) in September 2016, and a team of lawyers began to provide advisory services to the Chinese company, which ended on Friday with the inauguration of the office.
At the ceremony officials said that, as there is no date for launching the business in Brazil, the company is gathering information about the local market, and may sign roaming contracts with Brazilian operators.
The tele.síntese website also reported that representatives of Anatel and the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications in recent weeks welcomed representatives from China Telecom and the China Development Bank.
They discussed subjects as diverse as solving the problems of Oi, a highly indebted Brazilian telecommunications company currently under judicial reorganisation, and obtaining authorisation to launch the business in Brazil. (macauhub)
