China’s ambassador to São Tomé and Príncipe, Wang Wei, said goodbye on Tuesday to a group of 10 young São Toméans attending the 2nd Asia-Africa Youth Festival to be held in Beijing in the next few days, the Chinese diplomat told Macauhub.
Wang Wei stressed that the São Tomé and Príncipe delegation to the Beijing Youth Festival, the first ever, is made up of youth leaders from every district of the island of São Tomé, a representative of the island of Príncipe and some members of cultural associations and from other areas.
The farewell ceremony that took place at the Chinese Embassy was attended by the São Tomé Defence Minister, Arlindo Ramos, on behalf of the youth minister, Marcelino Sanchez.
With departure scheduled for Thursday, the youth delegation is due to return to São Tomé on 28 September.
The first Asia-Africa Youth Festival, held in Beijing in 2016, had 600 young delegates from 36 Asian and African countries, with Chinese President Xi Jinping calling for unity to be strengthened and cooperation extended in order to better serve the peoples of the two continents. (macauhub)
