Macau attends Pan-Pearl River Delta meeting in Hunan

A delegation from Macau led by the Chief Executive, Chui Sai On, will be at the regional cooperation meeting of the Pan-Pearl River Delta in Changsha, capital of Hunan province, which will be attended by officials from nine provinces of China, Macau and Hong Kong, the government spokesman’s office said.

The joint meeting of the “Executive Leaders of Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Cooperation” was established in 2004 and includes the governments of the Chinese provinces of Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and the special regions of Hong Kong and Macau also known as “9 + 2”.

During the meeting, officials from the provinces and special administrative regions will discuss building large maritime and cross-border transport infrastructure, encouraging the creation of physical and communications links in the Pan-Delta region and launching joint efforts to for the development of the “Belt and Road.”

The joint development of the Greater Pearl River Metropolitan Region is also due to be discussed.

Deepening cooperation on technology and innovation with the aim of modernising and converting economic sectors in the context of the Pan-Delta region and the joint protection of the marine and inland waterway environment will also be addressed.

The participants in the meeting will take stock of the joint work carried out in 2016 by the Pan-Delta Regional Cooperation Forum and set out the common priorities for 2018. (macauhub)
