28 September 2017

The value of goods exported by Macau from January to August increased by 9.0% year-on-year to 7.538 billion (US$942 million), according to the Statistics and Census Bureau.

The value of imports increased by 4.1% year-on-year to 47.408 billion patacas (US$5.926 billion), resulting in a trade deficit of 39.869 billion patacas (US$4.983 billion) a drop of 3.2% over the first eight months of 2016.

The rate of import coverage by exports improved by almost 1 percentage point, from 15.0% in January to August 2016 to 15.9% in the same period of this year.

In August alone Macau’s exports fell by 17.2% to 804 million patacas, while imports dropped 4.3% to 6.333 billion patacas, which the Bureau said was due to the impact of typhoon Hato on the region. (macauhub)
