Trade fairs in Macau promote business opportunities under the “Belt and Road” initiative

The first edition of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (PLPEX) is another platform to showcase and promote products and services from those countries, said the Macau Secretary for Economy and Finance Leong Vai Tac.

The Secretary was accompanying Macau Chief Executive Chui Sai On at the opening ceremony of the 22nd Macau International Trade Fair (MIF) and the first edition of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition, which this year and for the first time is independent of MIF.

Speaking specifically about PLPEX, Leong Vai Tac said that “the event helps to strengthen communication and cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries and thereby to develop the Macau platform.”

Leong Vai Tac said he expected that both MIF and PLPEX “would have a synergistic effect, generating an organic combination between the convention and exhibition industry in Macau, the service platform for trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and the Belt and Road initiative to generate greater benefits.”

The 22nd edition of the Macau International Fair, which began on Thursday, will take place in one of the hotel and entertainment complexes of the territory until Saturday, organised by the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), has 1,000 companies from 50 countries and regions.

IPIM said in a recent statement that the two events are intended to support the “Belt and Road,” initiative, the Greater Guangdong Bay-Hong Kong-Macau project and Macau’s role as a service and trade platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. (macauhub)
