The provinces and municipalities included into the Pan-Pearl River Delta should take advantage of the Macau platform to deepen economic and trade cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries and even with the countries along the “Belt and Road,” said the chairman of the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).

During the 13th Joint Meeting of the Mayors of the municipalities included in the Pan-Pearl River Delta region, in the municipality of Changsha, Hunan province, the representative of the Government of Macau and chairman of IPIM, Jackson Chang, told participants about the role that Macau could play in the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Great Bay.

Chang also said that, in March of this year, the development of the Metropolitan Region of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Great Bay was officially included in the Working Report of Work of the Central Government, and that later a Framework Agreement  was concluded for Strengthening Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Cooperation and Promoting Construction of the Great Bay.

The chairman of IPIM recalled that at the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China support was given for the integration of Hong Kong and Macau in overall national development, with a focus on the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Great Bay, greater cooperation between the three sides and regional cooperation within the Pan-Pearl River Delta region, boosting cooperation between China, Hong Kong and Macau, for mutual benefit.

For this purpose, with a view to building the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Great Bay, the MSAR Government has concluded a number of agreements with the municipalities located near the Great Bay and IPIM has also signed agreements and initiated cooperation with various economic bodies and agencies to promote trade, covering several areas, including services, trade, financial and information.

The IPIM statement noted that Macau, in collaboration with the provinces and municipalities of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region, visited Portuguese-speaking countries and in March and June of this year delegations of representatives of the “9+2” Group travelled to Portugal, Brazil and the headquarters of the European Union.

During the meeting, the “Proposal on the deepening of cooperation between the capital cities of the provinces included in the Pan-Pearl River Delta region (Changsha)” was also published and a resolution adopted on the municipality where the next edition of the Joint Meeting will be held, which, as announced, will take place in Guangzhou.
