Airports in Cabo Verde see more aircraft and passenger traffic in 3rd quarter

The number of aircraft and passengers using airports and aerodromes in Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) in the third quarter of the year increased by 13.5% and 9.2%, respectively, compared to the same period of 2016, the country’s National Statistics Institute (INE) said on Thursday.

The INE added that in the same period air cargo of goods fell by 24.7% year on year and postal cargo rose by 17.1%.

In absolute terms, there were 4,319 aircraft landings and 4,317 take-offs, which were a real increase of 512 landings and 513 take-offs of aircraft compared to the same period of 2016.

The number of passengers handled at airports and aerodromes in the archipelago totalled 644,200, a real increase of 54,100 movements compared with the number in the third quarter of 2016.

At Cape Verdean ports, the number of ship movements in the same period increased by 0.3%, the number of passengers handled increased by 2.6%, the tonnage of goods handled increased by 11.9% and the number of 20-feet container movements increased by 14.1%, compared to the same period of 2016.
