Chinese fishing company builds fish processing and preserving factory in Guinea-Bissau

Zhongyu Global Seafood Corporation, a Chinese fishing company, will build a fish processing and preserving unit in Bissau under a memorandum of intent signed on Monday with the government of Guinea-Bissau.

The commitment to build the new facility, whose budget was not disclosed, follows an agreement signed between the parties 30 years ago when the company was set up in Guinea-Bissau and, during which, Zhongyu Global Seafood Corporation implemented several projects to improve the country’s food and economic situation.

The document was signed by the Director-General of Guinean Industrial Fisheries Alcibiades dos Santos and the representative of the Chinese company Sun Zhi Xiang, both of whom expressed their willingness to work in partnership to ensure greater prosperity for the people of Guinea-Bissau.

“We have contributed to the enrichment of the Guinean market with marine products and in a positive way to the economy of the country as well as the improvement of the living conditions of the population,” said Sun Zhi Xiang, who stressed that the company provides the Guinean government with about 1,000 tons of fish every year.

Zhongyu Global Seafood Corporation has recently set up an ice-making facility on the island of Bubaque and will start construction of an identical factory on Uracam Island, both in the Bijagós archipelago, by the end of January. (macauhub)
