Cabo Verde needs to position itself to take advantage of China’s “New silk road” initiative

Officials from the Barlavento Chamber of Commerce (CCB) and the Cabo Verde-China Friendship Association (Amicachi) pledged to “work together” to strengthen business cooperation between China and Cabo Verde (Cape Verde),  signed a protocol on Friday in Mindelo, the port city of the Cape Verdean island of São Vicente.

Amicachi President José Correia said that the aim is to share the association’s knowledge of the Chinese reality and its opportunities and meet Cape Verdean entrepreneurs’ expectations in relation to China, while recognisng that there are “great opportunities,” but also challenges in this cooperation.

The president of the CCB, Belarmino Lucas, said that the initiative was aimed at carrying out joint projects to boost business cooperation and develop joint projects within a framework of cooperation for future projects.

The CCB will also organise activities such as forums, lectures and training sessions and support Chinese entrepreneurs in Cabo Verde as well as Cape Verdeans in China in pursuit of business deals, organisation of business missions in both directions and to explore business development opportunities between the two countries.

During the Cabo Verde-China Economic and Trade Relations Forum, which ended China’s cultural week in Mindelo, Correia suggested that Cabo Verde should position itself “at once” to take advantage of China’s “great initiative” which is the “new silk road.” (macauhub)
